April 30, 2010

Okay, I’m officially horrible at keeping resolutions. Or blogging. Or both. Anyway, I guess I’ll just resign myself to the fact that unless I have someone prodding me, I’m not going to keep up with a weekly blog. To make up for it, here’s a lovely photo, brought to you by the sun:

Product Shots

March 8, 2010

I’ve been toying with the notion of doing product shots, and finally got around to setting it up (thanks, brand-spanking-new SB-900)! Below are some of my personal effects (they are not for sale).

My engagement and wedding rings:

The barefoot sandal I made for my wedding day:

The sapphire bracelet my awesome husband gave me as a wedding present:

The beautiful sapphire necklace I got from the love of my life on my birthday two years ago, which I wore on my wedding day:

Yes, this is all the jewelry I wore on my wedding day, minus the earrings.  I don’t have much else by way of bling.  I’m just not that kind of girl.

So, if you know someone in need of product shots, I’m available to do those.

Kensley

March 2, 2010

Finally got to photograph Kensley. It was only about fifteen minutes, but we got a few good ones of her.

I’ll Drink to That

January 31, 2010

As most of you Tampa natives know, today was the Gasparilla Invasion—the annual celebration commemorating when José Gaspar and his ragtag bunch of scallawags invaded the shores of Florida and accosted the inhabitants with plastic beads.  The inhabitants fought back by creating their own pirate clans with oddly spelled names, presumably to confuse the pirate cre…krewe. The story ends with mass intoxication and public urination.

This was the first time I’ve ever witnessed this phenomenon (Gasparilla, that is—not, unfortunately, public urination).  I was working on one of the ships that joined the José Gaspar on its way to invade Tampa.  We got close enough for me to get a few good shots of the Gaspar itself.

Yep, those are grown men dressed as pirates.

Love of My Life

Grant was gracious enough to pose for me while I tested lighting techniques. ;)

January 20, 2010

It’s only 20 days into the new year, and already I’m slacking on my resolution!  I haven’t shot anything since Brad and Ashley’s maternity (by the way, little Kensley was born Saturday. Congrats to the proud parents!), so I thought I’d put up some random photos I took last year.

Hoping to get some newborn photos up here in the next few weeks, once Kensley’s all settled at home.

Ashley and Brad Maternity

January 8, 2010

After weeks of scheduling conflicts and rescheduling conflicts (all the while worrying that the baby would be here before we got a chance to shoot), we finally cleared a day that all three of us had off.

Quote of the day: “It takes a lot to embarass a 9 and a half month pregnant woman.”

:) Touché.

For Christmas, my husband and I decided to just exchange ornaments that signify something that happened this past year.  We got a kitten in August, so I decided that would be my ornament’s theme.  To complete the ornament, I needed a photo of our little girl, and I realized that I don’t have nearly enough photos of her.  So I laid a white sheet on a chair, sprinkled some catnip on it, and started firing.  These were some of the results.

To get her attention, I ended up shaking the little bag of catnip right above my lens.

Welcome to Jen Abert: 2010

December 31, 2009

I’ve made a resolution to start and maintain a blog showcasing my photography. My goal is to post at least once a week. Anyone who knows me well knows that this will be quite the challenge for me. So a little nudging every so often (or even just a shout to let me know someone’s reading) would be awesome.

This is my new year’s resolution.
